Coaches: 90% of you will failAdd Your Email Address in the box (top right) & you'll receive new posts via email! I have spoken to leaders in the coaching industry who acknowledge the ninety percent of those who set out to be coaches will fail. And these are people who train coaches. One noted luminary in the coaching industry, a true pioneer in fact, said that in his opinion only 3% of the people coaching are actually the principal breadwinners of their family. Lat year I think it was a coach expert author wrote it all down in a “best seller” whatever that really means - as if it was some kind of earth shattering discovery. Well it really wasn’t. Do you know the percentage of real estate agents who fail? Or the percent of financial planners or life insurance agents that fail during their first two years in the business? About the same.
Why is that? What do these people have in common? Is there something you can do differently so you will be among the 10%? And if so what does it cost? There is no cost in money, but there is a cost in attitude and commitment to your purpose. To be successful at anything, especially being a coach, a real estate agent, a life insurance agent or anyone who must get up every day ready to market, sell, and deliver their products and services can be more financially successful by following the simple to remember, but difficult to execute principle entitled the “Common Denominator of Success” You can Google that phrase and come up with a full blow description of it but to boil it down, “Successful people do the things that unsuccessful people won’t do. Successful people focus on pleasing results and will do whatever it takes to achieve them. Unsuccessful people focus on pleasing means and will accept whatever results follow.” I have had coaches tell me they are afraid to speak to groups - where there prospects are right there in the front row wanting to know more so they can buy. My reply to them is, get over it - or go out of business. Coaches have told me they didn’t like to make cold calls, whatever that means to them and my reply is - so what? It’s not whether or not you like to do it or feel comfortable doing it, it’s whether your goals are more important than your unwillingness to face discomfort. It is so true that most people would rather endure the situation they’re in than suffer the discomfort of doing what’s required to change it. But hey, that’s just my opinion.
